Brow Wizard Porvas: Client Education & FAQs

 Understanding Our Services

What is Microblading? Powder Brows? Combo Brows?

  • Microblading is a semi-permanent cosmetic eyebrow tattoo done by the process of manually implanting pigment beneath the surface of the skin with tiny, sterile, disposable needles to produce the appearance of hair strokes.
  • Powder Brows creates a soft and powdery healed result that resembles makeup. This service may be a better option for clients with oily or mature skin.
  • Combo Brows is a combination of microblading (hair strokes) and machine shading (powder brows), offering a dimensional look.

What is Lip Blush?

  • Lip Blush is a cosmetic tattoo that offers a natural lip tint that lasts up to three years.
  • Healing is usually complete within a few days, and the lips resemble being slightly chapped. Minimal pain is expected, as a topical numbing agent is applied to help with discomfort.

What is Lash Enhancement & Eyeliner Tattoo?

  • Lash Enhancement is a subtle cosmetic tattoo on the upper eyelid designed to enhance the lash line.
  • Traditional Eyeliner Tattoo is a thicker version of the "lash enhancement."
  • We also offer the classic Winged Liner. We strive to keep all our work looking natural!

 Who Is Semi-Permanent Makeup For?

If you want to effortlessly look your best anytime, then cosmetic tattooing is for you! If you want to look younger, healthier, and more vibrant, this will do wonders for you!

If you’re a busy mom, business woman, or have an active lifestyle, you’ll save hours every week not having to slave over applying your eyebrow makeup and lipstick. Not to mention, you won’t have to worry about sweating it off during a workout or melting by the end of an evening out.

 The Procedure & Healing Process

Does it hurt?

Everyone has a different level of sensitivity. An anesthetic is applied for numbing during the procedure to alleviate discomfort, and every effort is made to ensure you remain comfortable. Clients are usually pleased to discover that it is no more painful than having your eyebrows tweezed or threaded.

Please Note:

  • Having this service performed during your menstrual cycle may increase discomfort.
  • If you are a frequent smoker, topical anesthetics may not last as long.
  • If you have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, be aware that this may affect your sensitivity tolerance.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

  • Must be 18 years old. Please bring photo ID.
  • If you have reference photos, feel free to bring them to your appointment.
  • Please come in wearing no facial makeup. (It is okay to fill in your brows before if you wish for me to see how you wear them daily.)
  • If you prefer to have your eyebrows waxed/threaded, please do so at least 48 hours before your appointment.
  • Do not tint or dye your brows for 5 days before your appointment.
  • You must not use Retin-A near the tattooed area before or after the procedure.
  • Blood Thinners: You cannot take any medications that may thin your blood (i.e. Aspirin, Ibuprofen, fish oil, Vitamin E) for 72 hours before or immediately after your procedure.
  • Do not drink alcohol the night before or day of your procedure.
  • Avoid caffeine the day of your appointment.
  • Sun Exposure: It is required that you have no extreme sun/tanning bed exposure for 30 days before and after your procedure. Please account for both your initial and follow-up appointments if you have a vacation planned.
  • You will not be able to exercise (any activity that produces sweat) the day of or day after your appointment.
  • For sanitation reasons, we have clients remove their shoes while on the treatment table. We recommend bringing comfy socks.

Do I need to take time off work?

There’s no downtime associated with the treatment. Redness and swelling will dissipate within an hour. Your brows will appear darker initially, but not so dark that you will be prevented from your activities of daily living. Typically, the most awkward time are days 5-10 when exfoliation is happening.

How long does it take for the brows to heal completely?

Healing time varies from individual to individual.

  • It takes about a week to ten days for the epithelial crust to form and slough off.
  • Your skin will be considered healed after that happens, but the pigment takes time to settle into the skin. A good month should pass before we consider the process complete.
  • The final result is assessed at the 6-week follow-up appointment for fine-tuning.

How long do semi-permanent brows last?

Cosmetic tattooing can typically last from 1–3 years, depending on how well you care for them and/or your body chemistry.

  • Fading occurs due to natural skin shedding, sun exposure, use of exfoliating agents, and the body's own chemistry.
  • Semi-permanent procedures do not go as deeply as traditional tattoos, which allows the strokes to replicate actual brow hairs in a crisp, fine line and lessens the risk of colors fading to unwanted tones (blues, purples, etc.).
  • Periodic maintenance is necessary to refresh the color.

 Candidate Suitability

Am I a good candidate?

We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone who we deem not suitable for this procedure or for any other reason.

CANDIDATES NOT SUITABLE FOR SERVICE:

  • Using Accutane
  • Have heart conditions or using heart medications
  • Have diabetes (will require a physician's note)
  • Have skin disease or irritations (including blemishes in the eyebrow)
  • Have had Botox in the last 2 weeks
  • Have gotten a deep tan or chemical peels in the last 2 weeks
  • Allergic to the common topical anesthetics: lidocaine, prilocaine, benzocaine, tetracaine or epinephrine
  • Anyone who has any serious medical conditions may require a physician's note.
  • Pregnant or nursing clients: At your own discretion. We suggest discussing this with your doctor first. Cosmetic tattooing is still considered a tattoo, and just like with wine or sushi consumption, it is a personal choice. Doctor's note required.
